ACLU Hires New Republican Consultant

In a move that it says will help its outreach to Republican members of Congress, the American Civil Liberties Union has hired Michael Volkov as a Republican consultant. He has served as a federal prosecutor in Washington, and also worked in the Department of Justice and for the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. He'll continue to work at LeClairRyan as he consults for the ACLU.

"By hiring Michael, the ACLU further underscores it's non-partisanship and its ability to work closely with leaders from both the Republican and Democratic parties," Laura Murphy, the director of ACLU's Washington legislative office, said in a statement. "Michael will be an asset to our efforts to preserve Americans' privacy, rebalance our criminal justice system and make our national security policies reflect the rule of law."
