CREW Is Not Non-Partisan, New Ad Says

A new ad from the Center for Consumer Freedom was as much of an attack on the media as it was on Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. It went after media outlets for referring to CREW as "nonpartisan," "a watchdog group" and a "good government group."

Instead, the ad says, the group should be called "left-wing," "Democrat" and "leftist attack dog."

"In reality, CREW is little more than a left-wing attack dog, and when the media fails to report its true motivations, they are complicit in CREW's scam," the ad says.

Sarah Longwell, CCF's communications director, told the Alley that the motivation for the ad came from CCF growing tired of seeing how the media identified CREW. CREW, CCF says, specifically targets Republicans more than Democrats.

But Melanie Sloan, the executive director of CREW, said the organization takes action whenever a law or regulation is violated and it doesn't matter whether it is a Republican or Democrat acting unethically.

"We go after corruption wherever we find it," Sloan said.
