Obama Campaign Returning Donations to Lobbyists

The Obama reelection campaign, which has vowed not to take donations from lobbyists, is reimbursing five lobbyists who contributed a total of $2,250 between April and September, Michael Beckel of the Center for Responsive Politics writes on OpenSecrets Blog.

"When we catch [a contribution] from a federal lobbyist that slips through the cracks, we immediately return the contribution," Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told OpenSecrets Blog. "Unlike our opponents, our campaign does not accept contributions from Washington lobbyists."

The blog originally alerted the campaign about some of the donations.

Beckel also writes that the campaign received $4,500 from three people who later registered as lobbyists. LaBolt did not comment on those contributions, according to the blog post.
