Chris Frates On Power, People And Influence From Capitol Hill To K Street

Revolving Door: Hoppe to head Kyl's Whip Operation

After eight years at the lobbying firm Quinn Gillespie, Dave Hoppe is headed back to the Hill to become Sen. Jon Kyl's chief of staff in the Republican whip's office. Hoppe, a former chief for then-Sen. Trent Lott, spent 27 years on the Hill before jumping to K Street.

The timing of Hoppe's move is interesting. Kyl is retiring after his term is over in January 2013, giving Hoppe a little more than a year with the Arizona Republican. I've got a line in to Hoppe and will update this post if I hear back.

This post has been updated to reflect the fact that Kyl's term ends in Jan. 2013, not Jan. 2012 as I originally reported. I regret the error.
