Doc Group Pushes SupComm To Repeal SGR

The American Osteopathic Association launched an online ad campaign today that urges the Super Committee to repeal the Medicare sustainable growth rate, which effectively mandates that Congress annually slash doctors' Medicare reimbursement rates -- a requirement lawmakers regularly vote to avoid.

The group is taking a new tact in their long-running campaign to repeal the SGR by depicting it as a $300 billion drag on the economy.

"Deficit reduction starts with honest budgeting," the AOA says, "and honest budgeting starts with repealing the SGR." The Medicare cuts, according to the group, will end in doctors no longer accepting Medicare, which will make it difficult for seniors to find care.
