BGov Chief Economist to Shire

Biopharmaceutical company Shire announced Monday it has hired Bloomberg Government chief economist Ted Buckley as its director of U.S. government relations and public policy.

"Ted's impressive policy and economics background will help Shire communicate effectively with U.S. federal government institutions with the objective of enabling better health care solutions to be delivered to patients," Jessica Mann, senior vice president of corporate communications and government relations, said in a statement.
Buckley, who was also the economic policy director for the Biotechnology Industry Organization, will report to Joff Masukawa, vice president of global government relations and public policy.
Shire specializes in making "orphan drugs," which treat rare conditions and diseases.
