Sarah Palin, Democratic Moneymaker

Sarah Palin probably won't run for Senate, but Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, likely doesn't mind the chatter that she's considering joining the race.

Few Republicans -- other than perhaps Michele Bachmann -- engender a more viscerally negative response among Democrats, or a more positive response among the Tea Party base, than Palin does. That makes her a valuable commodity both to Fox News and, counterintuitively, Democratic politicians. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., sent out an email pitch Wednesday with the subject line "Senator Palin?", a thought sure to give nightmares to many on the left. Stabenow's email warns that Begich will be a "top target" and "the SuperPACs and right-wing activists will pour millions of dollars into Alaska to finance [Palin's] campaign."

Stabenow asked for $10 donations to help Begich ward off Palin's bid. That money will spend just as well when Palin inevitably rules out a race.
