Rep. Gary Peters has turned to a familiar face to manage his Senate campaign: Julie Petrick, the Democratic strategist who ran his first congressional race in 2008, will take over his statewide bid Tuesday.
Petrick comes to the campaign from EMILY's List, where she worked in the political department. She helped Peters knock off eight-term incumbent Rep. Joe Knollenberg. In a press release, she promised to "build the strongest grassroots campaign Michigan has ever seen."
Petrick's husband, Democratic operative B.J. Neidhardt, also helped elect a first-time Michigan representative in 2008. Rep. Mark Schauer, who lost his 2010 reelection bid, is considering a statewide campaign of his own, saying recently he's "leaning toward" a gubernatorial run.
