Insiders: Rocky, Johnson Retirements Viewed As Most Damaging

Sen. Jay Rockefeller(Richard A. Bloom)

April 13, 2013

Democratic members of National Journal's Insiders panel said this week that West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller's retirement was most damaging to their party's prospects of retaining the seat.

The Insiders Poll asked which 2014 Senate retirement hurt the incumbent party the most, with nearly half of Democratic Insiders, 48 percent, picking Rockefeller. Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., was second, at 35 percent. Just 10 percent of Democrats said the retirement of Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, hurt their party the most, and 7 percent chose Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., the only Republican in the top four.

Republicans agreed with the top two choices, but they had the retirements of Rockefeller and Johnson tied at the top, each with 39 percent.

Here are this week's questions. As always, for all the colorful quotes from our Insiders, click here.
