Tim Ryan Passes on Ohio Gubernatorial Race

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, will not run for governor, the Youngstown Vindicator reported Friday. Ryan had been listed among the possible challengers to Gov. John Kasich, but decided he preferred to retain his spot on the House Appropriations Committee.

Earlier this week, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald announced the formation of an exploratory committee. FitzGerald has garnered much of the early attention, but former Rep. Betty Sutton has been politicking in Democratic circles as well.

Another possible challenger is Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray, whose Senate confirmation hearing began this week. Republicans have vowed to block his nomination, and some have suggested that Cordray, the former state attorney general, could mount a bid if the GOP derails his reappointment.
