Sutton, FitzGerald Meet as Both Consider Challenging Kasich

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and former Rep. Betty Sutton spoke Saturday at a banquet for Franklin County Democrats in a possible preview of the party's gubernatorial primary contest in Ohio. Both are working to gain traction as they consider launching bids.

A source in the room said the 250-300 people in attendance were impressed with both candidates. The two sat together during the banquet and were complimentary of each other during their speeches. Both gave addresses that were introductory and biographical in nature, although the source said there was also some "raw meat" about knocking off Republican Gov. John Kasich in 2014.

"There's very few people who are pushing hard to put this thing to bed right away," the source said. "Those are two really good candidates."

While Sutton said last week she was considering a bid, this is the first indication she's started making the rounds to gather support from party leaders.
