S.C. House Special Election Dates Set

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley signed an executive order that sets a timeline for the special election to replace GOP Rep. Tim Scott, who resigned his seat Wednesday in order to replace Jim DeMint in the Senate this week.

The primary in the state's 1st Congressional District will be held on March 19, a potential runoff would be April 2, and the general election is scheduled for May 7.

Numerous Republicans have expressed interest in the heavily GOP seat. State Sen. Paul Thurmond, who lost to Scott in the 2010 primary and is the son of late Sen. Strom Thurmond, just decided against another try at the seat, while former Gov. Mark Sanford continues to weigh a bid.
