Poll: Cuccinelli, McAuliffe in Deat Heat
GOP Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Democratic opponent Terry McAuliffe are in a dead heat in the 2013 Virginia gubernatorial race, according to an internal poll conducted for GOP Gov. Bob McDonnell.
The survey, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, shows the former Democratic National Committee chairman with 43 percent support to Cuccinelli's 42 percent. Fifteen percent said they were undecided nearly a year out from the election.
The two men are nearly certain to face off in the general election -- McAuliffe is running unopposed in the Democratic primary, and Cucinelli is heavily favored to win the Republican nod at the party's nominating convention in May. One x-factor is Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who dropped out of the GOP race but hasn't completely ruled out an independent bid.
The poll also shows 55 percent approving of President Obama's job performance, while 43 percent disapprove. And a whopping 67 percent approve of McDonnell's performance, with 24 percent disapproving.
The Public Opinion Strategies poll was conducted December 3 - 4, and surveyed 600 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4 percent.
