Joe Walsh Ponders Political Future

Joe Walsh, senator?

The outspoken Illinois congressman, who was defeated in November by Democrat Tammy Duckworth, held his final town hall meeting this weekend and mused, per the Arlington Heights Daily Herald, "It'd be kind of fun to run against Dick Durbin, wouldn't it?"

Though the Daily Herald reports that Walsh later said he was only kidding about challenging the state's senior senator, who's up for reelection in 2014, the tea party favorite did leave the door open for a potential challenge to Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn (also up in two years), or another congressional run:

"The state needs a Republican Party. This Republican Party needs a Scott Walker to run for governor, and I haven't seen or heard that candidate," Walsh said, referring to the conservative Republican candidate who won the governorship in Wisconsin. He added that he hoped to see a Republican candidate emerge from the pack in Illinois.
