Rounds Expected To Launch Senate Bid Today

Former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds is expected to announce his run for Senate in 2014 today, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports, in a 3-stop tour of the state. Rounds will appear in Pierre, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls.

The Republican announced in September that he was forming an exploratory committee for a 2014 bid. The seat is currently held by Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson, who has yet to decide whether he'll run for reelection.

If Rounds does decide to get in the race, it will be the second recruiting coup for the National Republican Senatorial Committee this week, after GOP Rep. Shelley Moore Capito's announcement she would run for Senate in West Virginia.
