Matheson Hangs On, Defeats Mia Love

Republican Mia Love conceded to Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson in Utah's 4th District. Matheson's narrow win comes as a surprise after recent polls showed Love with an advantage heading into the election. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Matheson holds a razor-thin lead over Love -- 49.3 percent to 48.1 percent.

Matheson has survived many tough elections as a Democrat in deep-red Utah. But this year he faced a top-tier challenger in Love, a GOP rising star, and was running in a state where Mitt Romney has huge popularity (and Romney even cut a television ad for Love).

A Mason-Dixon poll conduted for the Salt Lake Tribune last week showed Love beating Matheson by 12 points (though the poll was later revised to show her with a 50 percent to 43 percent lead).
