In Other Gubernatorial Race News
In Delaware, Democratic Gov. Jack Markell has been elected to a second term, beating Mail Boxes Etc. owner Jeff Cragg. With 52 percent of precincts reporting, the Associated Press called the race with Markell leading Cragg 72 percent to 26 percent.
In Indiana, Republican Rep. Mike Pence has been elected the state's 50th governor, defeating former state House Speaker John Gregg. With 82 percent of precincts reporting, the AP called the race with Pence leading Gregg 51 percent to 45 percent. Current Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels was prevented from running again because of term limits.
In Missouri, Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon has been elected to a second term, defeating businessman Dave Spence. With 67 percent of precincts reporting, the AP called the race with Nixon leading Spence 53 percent to 44 percent.
In North Dakota, Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple has been elected to a second term, defeating state Senate Minority Leader Ryan Taylor. With 3 percent of precincts reporting, the AP called the race with Dalrymple leading Taylor 59 percent to 40 percent.
In Utah, Republican Gov. Gary Herbert has been elected to his first full term, defeating retired Army General Peter Cooke. With zero percent of precincts reporting, the AP called the race with Herbert leading Cooke 55 percent to 43 percent. Herbert became governor in 2009 when Jon Huntsman Jr. accepted the position of U.S. Ambassador to China.
