Dem Leaders Cautiously Optimistic Bennet Will Head DSCC

Senate Democratic leaders are cautiously optimistic that Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., will agree to head the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the 2014 cycle, aides said. Democrats hope that their effort to retain DSCC executive director Guy Cecil for a second cycle at the panel will sweeten the offer for Bennet, for whom Cecil previously worked.

Bennet is weighing an offer from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to head the committee, and is expected to make a decision by next week.

Cecil's Republican counterpart, National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Rob Jesmer, meanwhile, is preparing to leave the NRSC after two cycles, according to incoming committee chairman Jerry Moran and other Republicans. Jesmer is unlikely to lobby, but is talking with multiple Washington public affairs firms, sources said. Jesmer declined to comment.
