Thompson Trails Baldwin in Fundraising

Former GOP Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson announced raising $3.6 million during the third quarter in his Senate bid, a substantial number but one that falls short of Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin's nearly $4.6 million haul.

Thompson announced nearly $2 million on hand at the end of September, whereas Baldwin had close to $3.5 million in the bank for the final stretch of the campaign.

Unlike Baldwin, Thompson dealt with a competitive primary in August, and has said he was "broke" after his primary victory. The two candidates are battling in a tight race, and significant outside money has been coming in on both sides.
