McCaskill's Mother Passes Away

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill's mother, Betty Anne McCaskill, passed away Monday, just over a week prior to the election.

"I am very sad to announce today the passing of my mother, Betty Anne McCaskill," said the Democratic senator in a statement released by her campaign. "For some time, mom's health has not been good, and our family takes comfort that she is now at rest. People all over the state have asked about her, and their prayers and concern have been greatly appreciated."

McCaskill cancelled her campaign events early last week in order to be with her mother at a St. Louis hospital. At the time, McCaskill spokesperson Catilin Legacki said the senators and her siblings planned to stay with their mother around the clock.

McCaskill faces GOP Rep. Todd Akin on November 6.
