King More Than Doubles Summers Fundraising Haul

Independent former Gov. Angus King raised $1.1 million during the third quarter, more than doubling the haul of his nearest competitor.

King's campaign ended September with $464,000 left for the home stretch. GOP Secretary of State Charlie Summers brought in $507,000, and finished the quarter with $189,000 in the bank. Democratic state Sen. Cynthia Dill raised $57,000 and finished September with just $10,000 on hand.

Outside money is pouring into Maine -- and King's campaign noted in a press release that though they outraised Summers, their GOP opponent has been supported by super PACs attacking King for months. More recently, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Americans Elect have entered the Maine fray with attacks on Summers and support for King.

While King was once expected to win the three-way race easily, recent polls have mostly shown King with a narrowed lead.
