Hasner Drops Toilet Ad Against Frankel

With the airwaves cluttered with political ads, especially in battleground states, it can take something different to bring through. This is something different: A new ad from Florida Republican Adam Hasner, running in an open House race in ad-saturated South Florida, features a woman sitting on and flushing a toilet while declaring that his opponent, Democrat Lois Frankel, has "gotta go."

The ad begins with an unidentified woman declaring, "That Lois Frankel is something," before accusing her of once using "a police helicopter ride to go to a dinner party."

Then it gets interesting -- and scatological.

"Frankel spent over $13,000 in taxpayer money on a marble shower in a private bathroom with her own toilet," the woman continues. "What a waste. All that money right down the drain for her own person use." Then the ad cuts to a close-up of a hand flushing a toilet. "When you gotta go, ya gotta go," the woman then says, after it's revealed she's sitting on a toilet. "But that's just ridiculous." Toilet paper, a magazine, and a can of air freshener can be seen behind her. Ironically, a previous Hasner ad featured him speaking straight to the camera and declaring, "If you like name calling or slick political ads, then flip the channel. But if you're looking for someone who thinks both parties got us in this mess, then hear me out." It is not clear how much is being spent to air this latest ad. Frankel, the former mayor of West Palm Beach, is considered to have the edge in a Democratic-leaning district against Hasner, a former majority leader in the Florida House. The Cook Political Report rates the seat as "likely Democratic."
