Carmona Has $2.2 Million Quarter

Former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona had a good fundraising period: The Arizona Democratic Senate nominee brought in $2.2 million during the third quarter, his campaign confirms.

The total doubles his second quarter take, when he brought in $1.1 million. He started the third quarter with $1.6 million on hand, but his campaign hasn't yet released his cash on hand at the end of September.

His opponent, GOP Rep. Jeff Flake, has yet to release his fundraising numbers. He raised close to $900,000 in the previous quarter and finished it with $2.7 million in the bank -- but he was also had to contend with a self-funding primary challenger over the summer, which forced him to spend on ads.

The Arizona Senate race has recently tightened, and outside money has begun pouring into the contest as well: This week, the Demcoratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Club for Growth have both begun spending there.

Carmona's haul was first reported by Politico.
