Bill Owens Endorses Matt Doheny

What's in a name?

Businessman Matt Doheny, the GOP candidate in New York's 21st District, just scored an endorsement: Bill Owens.

No, not his opponent, Democratic Rep. Bill Owens. Bill Owens, the former governor of Colorado. The campaign sent out a press release with the subject line "BILL OWENS ENDORSES MATT DOHENY."

Doheny isn't the first House candidate to tout an endorsement from a figure who shares their opponent's name: Democrat Tammy Duckworth got an endorsement from Joe Walsh, of the Eagles, in her race against Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill.

Meanwhile, Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., is facing a GOP businessman with the common name Tom Smith -- how hard could it be for Casey to find another Tom Smith or two out there to endorse him? As we noted this summer, there's even another Smith in the race.
