Warren Responds to Brown Attack in New Ad

Elizabeth Warren wasted no time responding to Sen. Scott Brown's attack ad targeting her claims of Native American heritage: In a new commercial, the Massachusetts Democratic nominee answers the one her Republican opponent launched this morning.

"As a kid, I never asked my mom for documentation when she talked about our Native American heritage. What kid would?" Warren asks with a shrug as she speaks direct-to-camera. She tells the story of her parents eloping because her father's family disapproved of her mother's heritage.

"Let me be clear," she says. "I never asked for, never got any benefit because of my heritage.

Warren closes with this line: "Scott Brown can continue attacking my family. But I'm going to keep fighting for yours."

Brown has been newly aggressive regarding the Native American controversy in recent days: He came out swinging on it during the candidates' first debate last Thursday, and his campaign subsequently released the hard-hitting negative ad Monday morning.

Polling since the two parties' conventions has diverged. A handful of surveys showed Warren with a slight advantage, but a UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll showed Brown marginally ahead.
