"That's why Heather is down by 7 (percentage points) - the fact that normally the Republicans pull more D's," pollster Brian Sanderoff told the Albuquerque Journal. Heinrich outpaces Wilson 51 percent to 42 percent in the critical Albuquerque metro region, an area both candidates have represented in Congress. Heinrich succeeded Wilson as the representative for the state's 1st Congressional District after Wilson's unsuccessful bid for the Senate in 2008, when she narrowly lost the GOP primary to Rep. Steve Pearce. The Albuquerque Journal poll, conducted Sept. 3 through Sept. 6 by Research and Polling Inc., surveyed 667 likely voters and has a margin of error of pus-or-minus 3.8 percentage points.
