Poll: Brown Leads Mandel in Ohio

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, holds a 7-point lead over Treasurer Josh Mandel in a new poll released Thursday evening.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist survey shows the senator leading his Republican challenger 49 percent to 42 percent, with 9 percent still undecided.

In the most recent NBC News/Marist survey, conducted in May, Brown led Mandel 51 percent to 37 percent. Brown has led in some more recent polls of the race, while others show a very close contest.

While the two candidates are tied in support from men in the new poll, Brown continues to garner more support from women, and beats Mandel 52 percent to 38 percent among female voters.

Meanwhile, the survey shows President Obama reaching 50 percent support in the Buckeye State -- and like Brown, he holds a 7 point lead, with Mitt Romney at 43 percent. The poll was conducted September 9 - 11 and surveyed 979 likely voters, for a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points.
