Howell Suggests Hatch Could Die During Term

Most blunt fundraising email ever? Sen. Orrin Hatch's Democratic opponent, Scott Howell, writes in a money appeal that the 78-year-old Utah Republican could "die before his term is through." Per ABC Salt Lake City:

Howell begins his fundraising email,

"I'm going to be frank."

Howell continues,

"Orrin Hatch is not a bad guy. But he is an old guy."

...

But the most explosive part of Howell's fundraising letter may be when he says that Hatch could,

"die before his term is through."

"Orrin Hatch is old enough to be my father and I don't want my father running the United States Senate Finance Committee," Howell told ABC Salt Lake City in defense of the letter. Hatch's campaign manager Dave Hansen told the news station that Howell has "got a campaign that's going nowhere." And indeed, Hatch is expected to easily win a 7th term in November.
