DSCC Hits McMahon in First Connecticut Ad

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee launched its first television ad in the Connecticut Senate race, amounting to an acknowledgement that the race -- once thought to be a slam dunk for Democrats -- is now competitive.

A release from the DSCC notes that the ad comes after "months in which Linda McMahon has had a near monopoly of the airwaves" -- the self-funding former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO has been pummeling Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy on television.

The DSCC commercial hits McMahon on her record at WWE, saying she puts "profits before people."

"Meet the real Linda McMahon," says the ad's narrator. "McMahon laid off 10 percent of her employees, even workers in Connecticut. Didn't pay Medicare, Social Security, and Unemploment for her wrestlers. But Linda McMahon took home $46 million a year. Now she's proposing to give herself an up to $7 million tax cut."

The ad is similar to an ad Murphy launched in August, targeting McMahon on her WWE record and saying she would get a $7 million tax cut under her own plan. The DSCC buy is $320,000. Murphy is still favored in Democratic-leaning Connecticut, but recent polls have showed a tight general election race.
