DCCC Outraised NRCC in August

Updated 7:54 p.m.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee outraised its GOP counterpart, the National Republican Campaign Committee, by a wide margin in the month of August.

The DCCC on Thursday reported raising $11.64 million last month, while the NRCC brought in $6.8 million during the same time period. But Republicans maintained their cash advantage entering September. The NRCC had $49.8 million in the bank compared to $40 million cash on hand for the DCCC as both committees begin to empty their bank accounts on independent expenditures for the election.

For the cycle, the Democratic committee has outraised the GOP by more than $10 million. The DCCC has brought in $127.1 million, while the NRCC has raised $115.9 million.

The DCCC's good month was fueled by small donors. Over half of its August total -- more than $6.1 million -- came from unitemized donations under $250, the category that usually constitutes the bulk of the committee's fundraising. The Democrats' haul from small donors has been on an upward trajectory, and it increased from about $4.3 million in July. The NRCC, meanwhile, had a relatively good month fundraising from individuals but didn't collect as much as usual from PACs and other political committees, including transfers from Republican House members and candidates. The GOP committee collected about $2.7 million in that category in August after bringing in over $6.5 million from those sources in each of the two previous months.
