Democratic state Rep. Mark Pocan defeated fellow state Rep. Kelda Roys in the Democratic primary in Wisconsin's 2nd District Tuesday night, setting himself up to replace Senate candidate and Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin as the representative from Madison in the next Congress.
Roys had support from EMILY's List, but Pocan, a popular figure in local politics, was carrying 70 percent of the primary vote with 31 percent of precincts reporting. Roys trailed with 23 percent of the vote and two other candidates took the remainder. Pocan, like Baldwin, is openly gay.
