Pressure Mounts on Akin to Drop Senate Bid

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney also condemned Akin's statement Monday, as did Obama. Echoing Cornyn, Romney said Akin "he should spend 24 hours considering what will best help the country at this critical time." Sens. Scott Brown, R-Mass., who is up for reelection this year and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who backed businessman John Brunner against Akin in the Missouri GOP primary also called on Akin to withdraw, as did New Mexico Senate nominee Heather Wilson. Other Republicans senators were expected to issue similar calls Monday.
