Dem Poll: Shea-Porter Leads Guinta

New Hampshire GOP Rep. Frank Guinta lags behind his challenger Democratic challenger, Carol Shea-Porter, in a new Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee IE poll.

Shea-Porter has 45 percent support, while the incumbent holds just 39 percent in the survey, which was conducted by Grove Insight. Seven percent of voters indicated they are undecided, while 9 percent support Libertarian candidate Brendan Kelly.

Forty three percent of respondents have a favorable opinion of Shea-Porter, while 35 percent view Guinta favorably and 57 percent hold an unfavorable view of their congressman (the polling memo did not provide Shea-Porter's negatives).

A public poll on this race from WMUR-TV and the University of New Hampshire Survey Center is due to be released later this week, which should provide a good barometer between an internal survey and a public one.

Shea-Porter held the seat previously, and lost to Guinta in 2010 (the New Hampshire Union Leader hit Guinta in an editorial Tuesday for a robocall in which he calls Shea-Porter "congresswoman" and doesn't mention that he is, in fact, the current representative for the district). The Grove Insights poll of 400 likely voters was conducted August 7 - 9 and carries a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percent.
