Cecil, Jesmer Cite Massachusetts and Virginia as Key

Rob Jesmer and Guy Cecil don't agree on a whole lot.

But at an event hosted by Center Forward, the executive directors of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee both cited Massachusetts and Virginia as critical races that could determine control of the Senate.

The two were asked to point to the race that, doing the math on election night, they would think "if we can win that one," we'll win control of the Senate.

"I think clearly Massachusetts is a critical race. It's why the NRSC has already invested $1 million into the state party, because they know it's a competitive race," Cecil answered. "I think that'll be a critical race. And I think Virginia will be a critical race. It's certainly a margin of error state."

"Are you ready?" Jesmer asked. "I agree with Guy." Polls certainly show the contests in Massachusetts (where Elizabeth Warren is challenging Republican Sen. Scott Brown) and Virginia (which pits former Govs. Tim Kaine and George Allen against each other) are two of the closest in the country, and no one has a clear advantage in either.
