Tommy Thompson's Disappointing Fundraising

July 16, 2012

The last candidates to announce fundraising totals every quarter typically don't have good news to announce. Tommy Thompson reinforces this point with his lackluster second quarter numbers, via the AP:

Thompson's campaign said he raised almost $834,000 between April and June. That is ahead of the $733,000 former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann reported collecting over that time and $237,000 brought in by political newcomer Eric Hovde.

A former four-term governor and cabinet secretary who has spent his post-government career on the lobbying circuit should be able to crack $1 million for a Senate race. And with Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., raising over $2 million, Hovde pouring in millions of his own cash, and Neumann getting help from the Club for Growth, it's unlikely he'll have any financial edge over his opponents.
