There is a reason why Eric Hovde stands a serious chance of winning the Wisconsin Republican Senate primary: money, which he is not hesitating to spend. A source tracking ad buys in the state says the self-funding Hovde has placed a new $1.5 million ad buy for five weeks of broadcast TV time leading up to the August 14 primary.
The buy begins next Tuesday and ends on August 13. Hovde has already spent heavily on both radio and TV ads in an effort to build name ID. It's paying off. A Marquette Law School poll conducted in Mid-June showed Hovde virtually tied in second place with former Rep. Mark Neumann, but behind former Gov. Tommy Thompson. Hovde has released polling of his own showing him within single digits of Thompson, and well ahead of Neumann.
