It's a tale of two conventions.
Republican former Sen. George Allen won't be in Tampa for the GOP's national convention, but former Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine will be attending his party's national Convention in Charlotte.
Kaine will attend part of the event in Charlotte, with the details of his attendance still to come.
"In addition to maintaining an active campaign schedule, including his ongoing roundtable conversations with business owners, veterans, women, Latinos, and other Virginians, Governor Kaine looks forward to joining the Virginia delegation at this year's convention," said Kaine spokeswoman Brandi Hoffine.
Allen isn't going to Tampa at all.
"Since we are locked in a close race and can't be in two places at once, the focus will continue to be listening and meeting with Virginia families, veterans, and small business leaders on the campaign trail," said Allen spokeswoman Emily Davis.
Both candidates' fates in the Senate race will be closely tied to the top of the ticket, regardless of whether or not they go to their respective conventions.
