Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., leads former Republican Rep. Pete Hoekstra, by 12 points in a new NBC News/Marist poll of the Michigan Senate race.
Stabenow leads Hoekstra, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, 49 percent to 37 percent in the survey. Fourteen percent are undecided.
While Stabenow's margin over Hoekstra is in the double digits, it is down a bit from a February NBC News/Marist poll showing the senator leading 53 percent to 32 percent.
In the presidential race in Michigan, President Obama is in a close race with Mitt Romney. The president leads the GOP challenger 47 percent to 43 percent.
The survey of 1,078 Michigan voters was conducted on June 24th-25th, and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.
