"I don't wear a leather jacket or ride a Harley," says Durant, while posing with a motorcycle and holding a leather jacket. "But challenging the status quo? You bet I'm a rebel." He then gets into some more nerdy specifics. "When Detroit schools were struggling, I co-founded Cornerstone where 95 percent of our students graduate from high school," he says. "When a state railroad went bankrupt, I took it private, saving jobs and taxpayers' money. Washington is broken and isn't accountable. Career politicians won't change things. But, this Michigan rebel will." Snyder's 2010 Nerd ad also went after career politicians. "It's time for a nerd," he declared before noting that his 10-point plan to reinvent the state "is so detailed, that, well, it's likely no politician could even understand it."
