Businessman Wil Cardon, hoping to defeat six-term Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., for the GOP's Senate nomination has sent out invitations for a Washington reception next Tuesday at the Capitol Hill Club. A glance at the guest list raises an interesting question.
Republican Rep. Trent Franks is listed as the "special guest" at the event. Franks' office would not say if this means Franks has decided to endorse Cardon, something he has not yet done publicly. A Cardon spokeswoman said that is a question for the congressman to answer, but that Franks has been "very friendly" and "helpful" to her boss's campaign.
Franks is a conservative with some history of siding against fellow Arizona Republican members of Congress in elections - he initially dissed Sen. John McCain for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination by first endorsing former Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.
