Democratic Super PAC Wades Into Virginia Senate Race

The Virginia Senate race is heating up on the airwaves.

On Friday, a Democratic super PAC backing former Gov. Tim Kaine launched an ad attacking George Allen's record as senator and governor.

"We still remember..." flashes on the screen at the start of the ad. It goes on to criticize the growth of spending under his watch, his past support of earmarks and new debt accumulated during his term in the Senate.

The new pro-Democratic spot comes two weeks after Crossroads GPS, a Republican-affiliated group, announced buying airtime in the state. The Crossroads ad sought to tie together President Obama and Kaine, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Majority PAC did not announce how much they were spending on the ad. Kaine and Allen are hotly contesting the issue of fiscal stewardship in the early-goings of the campaign, with each trying to pin the other as a profligate spender.
