Balderas Going on the Air in New Mexico

New Mexico Auditor Hector Balderas is launching his first TV ad of the New Mexico Senate race this week, a 30-second spot highlighting his humble beginnings and the importance of education.

"Most Senators don't come from places like this. Don't grow up on food stamps. Or become the first person from their village to earn a law degree. But because Hector Balderas did. He understands the power of education in a way most Senators never will," says the narrator of the ad.

Balderas is the underdog in the Democratic race against Rep. Martin Heinrich. Heinrich has outraised Balderas and the limited live-caller polling on the race made public suggests that the congressman is ahead.

In the last seven days, both Heinrich and former Rep. Heather Wilson -- the near-certain Republican nominee -- have launched their first TV spots. Both were strictly positive.

The primary is June 5.
