Democrat Ron Barber launched his first television ad in Arizona's 8th District special election on Wednesday, a biographical spot that briefly points out that he worked as former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords's district director and highlights his work with disabled people and in business.
"I'm Ron Barber and I've seen a lot in my life," says Barber in the ad. "Running a family business, I saw how we can create jobs, and how government can get in the way. As District Director, I saw the need to secure the border and get our veterans the benefits they've earned. And every day, I see a middle class that's disappearing."
While Barber doesn't say in the ad that he worked for Giffords, her name flashes across the screen as he talks about being district director.
Barber now knows he'll be facing Iraq war veteran Jesse Kelly in the June 12 special election: Kelly won the GOP primary on Tuesday.
