Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., raised $416,000 during the first quarter of 2012, his Senate campaign told Hotline on Call on Monday. Akin has $1.4 million in the bank.
The haul is an improvement over previous quarters: Akin took in $231,000 during the last three months of 2011, and $285,000 the previous quarter.
But Akin has a long way to go to catch up to Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., who raised $2.3 million this quarter and has $6 million in her campaign war chest. His opponents in the GOP primary, former Treasurer Sarah Steelman and businessman John Brunner, still haven't released their fundraising totals for the quarter. Brunner is using his own money to help his campaign.
Akin's campaign notes that more than 75 percent of money raised came from inside Missouri.
