Wisconsin State Board Makes Walker Recall Election Official

It's official in Wisconsin: Republican Gov. Scott Walker will face a recall election this summer, the state Government Accountability Baord ruled on Friday. The AP:

The Government Accountability Board voted 5-0 to order the recall, a move that has been expected for weeks given the high number of signatures gathered between November and January. It took 540,208 signatures to trigger a recall.

The board certified the petition signatures organizers submitted to trigger a recall. The election is slated for June 5, and a primary would take place a month earlier on May 8.

Walker has been busily raising money and trying to boost his image in the months leading up to the board's Friday decision, which was widely expected.

The frontrunner in the Democratic primary is Kathleen Falk. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will announce before Tuesday whether he will run. The Republican Governors Association has already launched ads hitting both Democrats.
