Duckworth will now face Walsh as a significant general election favorite. Walsh switched back to the Democratic-tilting, northern Chicago 8th District after initially committing to a run in the more GOP-friendly 14th District as redistricting played out in Illinois last year. In the 14th, Walsh would have faced fellow Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren. He announced that he was switching to the 8th District in December of 2011, sparing his party a member-versus-member primary. But Walsh, who has been hamstrung by a highly publicized child support back payment case will face a tough climb against the popular Duckworth, who is making a second bid for the House after losing a bid in 2006.
