The poll showed little movement from the last one conducted for the Dewhurst campaign. In that survey, which was conducted from Oct. 30 though Nov. 1 of last year, Dewhurst led with 50 percent, followed by Leppert at 9 percent and Cruz at 6 percent. Both surveys were conducted by Baselice & Associates, an Austin-based polling firm. Dewhurst is considered a heavy favorite in the race thanks to his name recognition, fundraising success and personal wealth. He needs a majority of votes in the primary to avoid a runoff with the second place finisher. Former state Rep. Paul Sadler is the leading Democrat in the race, but Republicans are expected to easily hold the seat.
