Sandoval Endorses Perry

"Governor Rick Perry has the strongest record of job creation, fiscal discipline, and executive branch leadership among the presidential candidates," he said. "As a governor, Rick Perry created a tremendous blueprint for job creation and as President, I know he will get America working again. I consider Governor Perry a friend and I am proud to endorse his campaign for President." Perry and Sandoval have a connection as governors of southwest states, and Perry also worked when he was chairman of the Republican Governors Association before running for president. But they do differ on one key issue to their border states: immigration. Perry has said Arizona's controversial illegal alien crackdown isn't the right fit for his state, while Sandoval has praised it. While Sandoval initially came out in support of SB 1070, Arizona's controversial immigration measure, he's largely steered clear of the issue since. Perry's moderation is a weakness for his campaign - he was even booed Monday night during the debate for defending giving in-state tuition to children of illegal immigrants in Texas. Sandoval's support might provide cover on the issue.
