Gregoire Won't Run For Third Term

Attorney General Rob McKenna is the presumptive frontrunner on the Republican side. McKenna made his bid official last week, calling for increases in state support for education, while reducing the size of state government. An Inslee-McKenna showdown would be one of the feature gubernatorial match-ups in 2012, but Republicans still face an uphill climb in statewide races in the Evergreen State, especially during a year in which President Obama will be at the top of the ballot. The last Republican to serve as governor was John Spellman, who won election in 1980.
