CNN Poll: Majority Opposes Medicare Changes

The CNN poll, however, did not ask about the budget deficit. Other polls have asked about changes to Medicare as a way to reduce the federal budget deficit, with varying results. The poll was conducted last Tuesday through Thursday; interviews began the night Democrat Kathy Hochul was elected in a special election for a vacancy in New York's 26th Congressional District. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel credited his party's victory in the race to "Medicare, Medicare and Medicare." The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll surveyed 1,007 adults. Results carry a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent; the margin of error is higher for subgroups.
